Burwick Law filed the lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. Investors in the coin are seeking more than $150,000 in damages and claiming that the coin was unregistered and illegal. The suit alleges that Haliey’s “extensive social media following” was used to “market the Token as a groundbreaking cryptocurrency project.” The investors are accusing the coin’s creators of “skirting the American securities laws” and making “no serious attempt to restrict purchasers” to international buyers.

“The pre-launch marketing for $HAWK framed the Token as more than a speculative asset, portraying it as a cultural movement with significant growth potential,” the case says. “Welch’s involvement and her reputation as a trusted public figure signaled to her followers and potential investors that the project was poised for success, fostering an expectation of profits based on her efforts.”

Welch jumped into the crypto craze after months of growing her brand. Since June, when her interview went viral, she has cashed in on her success with Hawk Tuah-themed merch, her podcast “Talk Tuah” and the launch of her AI dating assistant app Pookie Tools.

Welch and her partners — Alex Larson Schultz, who goes by “Doc Hollywood” online, and Clinton So, whose platform overHere made the $HAWK offering — held an audio Spaces event on X (formerly Twitter) that night, trying to counter allegations of a scam. They faced tough questions from investors in the crypto scene and Stephen Findeisen, the YouTuber renowned for investigating crypto fraud under the handle Coffeezilla. Welch herself was almost completely silent for the hour-long conversation as Schultz and So repeatedly denied coordinating a pump-and-dump or “rug pull” scheme in which a cluster of wallets that originally held the vast majority of the overhyped $HAWK unloaded it in a coordinated fashion, leaving other investors with a worthless asset.

Burwick Law, one of the firms representing the investors, said: “Sadly, this is one of many memecoin cases where institutional greed has exploited celebrities and their influence to harm everyday people.”

LEASH, or “Doge Killer”, was originally a rebase token pegged to dogecoin, where its supply was automatically adjusted by the protocol to keep its price in line with doge at a ratio of 1:1000. That is no longer the case today, as the rebasing algorithm was removed, meaning LEASH now acts as a store of value coin in the Shiba ecosystem with a limited supply of just 107,647 coins.

This meme coin quickly gained speed and value as a community of investors was drawn in by the cute charm of the coin paired with headlines and tweets from personalities like Elon Musk and Vitalik Buterin.

It has been speculated that Vitalik Buterin was behind the initial liquidity that helped set up Shiba Inu’s liquidity on Uniswap. According to Ryoshi, he had “a fren” he met at Devcon in Osaka that sent him 10 ETH to set up the liquidity pair on Uniswap. Ryoshi also stated that Shiba Inu was an experiment in decentralized community building, and he thus declined all the influencer requests and pitches from different exchanges he received. His “job” is to defend the brand and give suggestions, although he does so very sparingly, as his last blog entry dates back to May 2021.

The circulating supply for Shiba Inu still remains high with about 589 trillion tokens. Unlike the overwhelming supply, SHIB would even enthrall a stronger interest due to its active community and growing ecosystem. The token holds itself even amid the very much market lost correction where it has been moderately and consistently on an upward trend since the start of April 2025.

Haliey Welch, popularly known as the “Hawk Tuah” girl, has officially been cleared of any wrongdoing after the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) closed its investigation into her controversial meme coin, $HAWK.

In response to the news of the lawsuit statement, Welch hoped to assure her fans and anyone who had invested in the cryptocurrency as she said on Twitter: “I take this situation extremely seriously and want to address my fans, the investors who have been affected, and the broader community.

A lawsuit has been filed accusing overHere, its founder Clinton So, social media influencer Alex Larson Schultz and the Tuah The Moon Foundation (which is understood to have overseen the finances of the meme coin) of unlawfully promoting and selling cryptocurrency that was allegedly never properly registered.

“Unfortunately with situations like this, they’re not targeting crypto bros, they’re mostly targeting actual fans who have never been involved in the crypto space before,” he said in a video viewed more than 1.4 million times.

Welch shot to viral fame when she was interviewed by TimmandDeeTV in Nashville, Tennessee back in June and responded to one of their questions by saying her iconic “hawk-tuah” catchphrase that quickly took over social media.
